What social media does well
Instagram, Facebook and TikTok are great for showing the day-to-day: news, fresh work, events, behind the scenes. They build relationships with people who already follow you and can help new people discover you.
What it doesn't do
On social media the platform sets the rules: who sees your posts, how your page looks, whether the profile stays active. Stable information — services, hours, terms — gets lost among the posts. And people searching Google for a service in your area find websites and business profiles far more easily than social posts.
Many people also look for a website before contacting a business they don't know: it's a sign of seriousness, especially for important or expensive services.
The website's role
Your website is the only online space that's truly yours: address, content, structure. It holds the stable information, answers questions, leads to contact and keeps showing up in search engines years later. It's also where to send people who discover you on social media, to turn interest into an enquiry.
Making them work together
The most effective approach is to split the jobs: social media to be seen, the website to inform and convert, the Google business profile for local searches. With the same details everywhere — name, address, hours, phone — and links from one to the other.
- Social media: news, relationships, discovery
- Website: stable information, trust, contact
- Google business profile: searches in your area
