How it works, briefly
Search engines read pages, try to understand what they're about and show them to people asking a matching question. They reward pages that answer well, load quickly, read well on phones and are linked from other trustworthy sites.
The foundation every site needs
A different title and description for every page, saying what's inside. A structure with orderly headings. Copy that uses your customers' words, not just industry terms. Light images with alternative text. Fast pages that read well on a phone. A sitemap to help search engines find everything.

Local searches
If you work in a specific area, your Google business profile matters as much as the website: the right category, hours, photos, genuine reviews. Name, address and phone must be identical on the site, the profile and other listings.
What it needs over time
Once the site is live, visibility grows with useful, up-to-date content: pages that answer customers' questions, articles, concrete cases. And with regular checks in Google Search Console to fix errors and see which searches bring visits.
Promises to be wary of
Nobody can guarantee first place: search engines don't sell positions in their regular results. Be wary too of offers to buy links in bulk or to stuff pages with keywords: these practices can get a site penalised.
